The New York Jets are bringing in a familiar punter with a long history of production in the National Football League.

Thomas Morstead, who spent a portion of the 2021 season with Gang Green, has reportedly reached an agreement to return for a second stint in New York.

Morstead, who has logged 14 seasons in the NFL, posted a tweet about the imminent reunion on March 17. 

Sharing a photo wearing his old Jets jersey, the veteran punter wrote, “Got my green on. Kiss me, I’m a Jet!”

The Jets currently have former sixth-round draft pick Braden Mann on the roster. Selected during the 2020 NFL Draft, general manager Joe Douglas’ first at the helm, the Texas A&M product is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Morstead was initially signed in 2021 to fill in for an injured Mann. After punting in seven games for Gang Green, he was released upon Mann’s return.

Morstead punted the entire 2022 season for the Miami Dolphins after signing a one-year deal. He played his first 12 NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints, who drafted the Southern Methodist alumnus with the No. 164 overall selection in 2009.

Morstead’s signing likely signals an upcoming competition for the Jets’ starting punt duties.

Morstead has appeared in 221 games and he owns a career 46.5 punting average (41.6 net).
