2023 Jets Country Player Profile: WR Irvin Charles (19)

In this story:
Irvin Charles looks to make the leap from the Practice Squad to the active roster in 2023, but the New York Jets' depth at the receiver position will make that easier said than done.
Charles joined Gang Green as an undrafted free agent in 2022, spending his rookie season as a developmental player.
Attempting to stand out amongst a crowded receivers' room filled with proven performers, including three recent free-agent signees, the 6-foot-4 Charles earned a shoutout from quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the conclusion of OTAs.
"I thought Irv [Irvin Charles] had a really nice day today, which was nice to see because he works so hard," said Rodgers after a June 9 practice session, the last one on the spring schedule.
Charles, a South Jersey native, kicked off his collegiate career in the Big Ten Conference at Penn State before transferring to Division II PSAC member IUP.
After playing 25 games for the Nittany Lions, mostly on special teams, the Garden State product became a big-play receiver with Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Charles averaged 20.3 yards per receptions during IUP's 2021 season. He scored 12 touchdowns in nine appearances.
In what was his final collegiate campaign, Charles made multiple catches and found the end zone in every game.
Charles enjoyed a cup of coffee on an NFL active roster when the Jets called him up one day prior to the regular season finale, but the rookie receiver was on the inactives' list for the Week 18 game in Miami.
