Linebacker Alex Anzalone cashed-in on a new contract with the Detroit Lions.

According to the NFL Network, the veteran linebacker signed a new three-year, $18.75 million contract, to return with Detroit after one of the best seasons of his career.

“There have been talks with them,” Anzalone said on a recent edition of the "Ross Tucker Football Podcast." “It’s just, everything is going to unfold in the next few weeks, so it’s hard for me to say what’s going to happen. But, I feel like in the next few weeks, everything will unfold the way it’s supposed to.”

In 2022, the 28-year-old appeared in all 17 games, and set career-best marks in quarterback pressures (21), tackles (125) and tackles for loss (7.0).

Over the course of his tenure with Detroit, Anzalone has emerged as one of the veteran leaders of one of the youngest defenses in the NFL.

He is largely credited with the development of young linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez

“Familiarity with Detroit and my situation there, being a leader on the teams, is something that -- you don’t have to start all over again and earn the respect of your teammates. That’s a big part of it,” Anzalone explained. “But, sometimes you’re up for new challenges. It just depends on the situation, really. It’s kinda like we’ll cross that bridge when we get there, but I do love Detroit and everything they’re about and what Dan and Brad (Holmes) are really about.”
