Jared Goff Facing Saints Opportunistic Defense

Jared Goff will have an opportunity this week to showcase improvements securing the football.

Detroit's coaching staff have placed an even greater emphasis this week on ball security, even having all the quarterbacks on the roster participate in ball-security drills typically reserved for running backs and wide receivers.

The New Orleans Saints rank fourth in the National Football League with 20 takeaways this season.

Dennis Allen's defense has secured 14 interceptions and have caught the attention of Detroit's coaching staff, who are very familiar with how the Saints coach operates, being Dan Campbell has previous ties to New Orleans.

For the Lions, the past two games have seen the team turn the football over seven times (4 fumbles, 3 interceptions) against the Bears and Packers.

Detroit's veteran signal-caller fumbled the football three times in a disappointing loss to Green Bay, the team's first division loss this season.

Speaking with reporters, the 29-year-old quarterback was asked about minimizing turnovers.

"I had two hands on the ball," Goff explained. "It would be put it in my – tuck it away and be aware of where all the defenders are. I haven’t made a habit of fumbling often, so I’m confident I’ll get that fixed pretty quickly.

"But yeah, you look at them all individually and sometimes it just – it doesn’t go your way. I don’t want to go through each one, but there’s some that don’t go your way, there’s some that do. But yeah, ultimately, it’s just tucking the ball and taking care of it.”
