Report: Detroit Lions Have Made Offer to Kevin Colbert to Become GM

One of the biggest mistakes the Detroit Lions have ever made was letting Kevin Colbert leave the organization.

Colbert, the present Pittsburgh Steelers general manager, has garnered plenty of success in building up the Steelers since 2000.

The veteran front-office executive was part of Detroit's organization, and served as the team's pro scouting director from 1990-99.

On Thursday morning, veteran sports radio host Michael Stone reported on his 97.1 The Ticket morning show that Detroit has a contract offer in place for Colbert to become its next general manager.

“I just got off the phone with a trusted source who has told me that the Lions have made an offer to Kevin Colbert, and it’s pretty close to happening. We’ll just go with that. I’m not going to say it’s done or anything like that," Stone said on Wednesday. "Someone I know pretty well, somewhat connected, said that they’ve offered the job to Kevin Colbert, and unless the Rooneys come up with some kind of crazy counter offer, he might be coming back.”

The Lions were contacted by SI All Lions to confirm or deny the report, but have yet to do so.
