Gap Narrows in Next-Team Odds for Rodgers

There’s been some interesting movement in the Super Bowl and NFL MVP futures.

In this story:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – If Aaron Rodgers switches teams, the Las Vegas Raiders are the betting favorite to make it happen.

However, their gap over the New York Jets has consistently narrowed. In new odds posted at PointsBet, Las Vegas is -167 to be Rodgers’ next team. The New York Jets, who recently hosted Derek Carr and reportedly inquired about Rodgers’ availability, are +140.

The bet is valid only if Rodgers switches his teams; the Packers are not an option.

No other team is really close, in PointsBet’s estimation. The Tennessee Titans are +1200 and are followed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at +1600, Indianapolis Colts at +2000, San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriot at +3000, and Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints at +4000.

By implied probability, the Raiders are 62.6 percent while the Jets are 41.7 percent.

The Raiders remain the favorite, even though GM Dave Ziegler hinted that he might be looking to the draft.

On an episode of Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, he said: “We’re in charge of filling the most important position on the team. There’s some pressure that comes along with that ... it doesn’t mean we’re going to have an immediate answer this year."

DraftKings took down its next-team odds a couple days ago. When posted last week, the Raiders were -200, the Jets were +150 and the Packers had pulled to +250.

While the Packers aren’t part of any of the Rodgers bets, it’s interesting to note how they have slid in the Super Bowl race on the belief he might not return to Green Bay for a 19th season.

At FanDuel Sportsbook, for instance, the Packers opened at +2500 to win next year’s Super Bowl. Now, those odds have lengthened to +3500. The Jets and Raiders remain +2500 and +4000, respectively.

Meanwhile, in another sign that sportsbooks expect a change, Jordan Love’s MVP odds at FanDuel have moved from +4000 to +3000.

But will there be a change? For what it’s worth, ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, pointing to a conversation with a “very important” Packers source, said, “[Green Bay] looks at the contract that Aaron Rodgers signed last year, the commitment that he gave to the team, and believes that at the end of the day, Aaron Rodgers will be back with the Packers.”

Ultimately, that decision might be in the hands of Rodgers and whatever revelations were gleaned during his darkness retreat.

Maybe general manager Brian Gutekunst will shed some light on Rodgers’ future at the Scouting Combine on Tuesday.

Next-team odds for Rodgers at SportsBetting.ag and BetOnline remain unchanged over the last handful of days with the Raiders at -200, Jets at +140, Titans at +1000 and no other teams shorter than +1600.

Earlier this month, Rodgers was the betting favorite to be the starter for the Raiders as well as the Jets. Not anymore. Carr, who reportedly is looking for in excess of $35 million per season, is -200 to land with the Jets.
