Three Best-Value Contracts on the Raiders' Roster

These three Las Vegas Raiders have the best contracts on the books relative to their performance.

Signing players to value contracts is a true virtue in the NFL.

Many players receive massive contracts during free agency or because of extensions, and that, in turn, can sometimes damage the team’s cap situation. It hamstrings a team’s ability to improve its roster if it cannot spend money.

This is not the case for the Las Vegas Raiders, as they have over $24 million in cap space to work with and are under the league average in dead cap money, according to spotrac.com.

Raiders general manager Tom Telesco takes over a team in a comfortable financial position. Before him, the previous Raiders regime did a solid job putting together a talented team on value deals.

Today, let’s examine three players on value contracts for the Raiders. For this exercise, we will examine the best performers on the team from 2023 and compare that to their pay.

Linebacker Robert Spillane - Last free agency period, the Raiders signed Spillane to a two-year, $7-million contract.

He became a team captain and posted career-highs across the board, with 148 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, three interceptions and 3.5 sacks.

The Raiders gave Spillane an opportunity as a starter. He took it and gave the team borderline elite linebacker play. If he continues to perform well in 2024, he could be looking at a big payday.

Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers - In the same free agency period, the Raiders brought in Meyers on a three-year, $33-million deal to provide Davante Adams with a reliable running mate.

Meyers had a solid season in 2023, catching 71 passes for 807 yards and eight touchdowns. He posted a career-high in first-down receptions with 46.

Finding a reliable second option behind a star receiver makes for a well-built offense.  Meyers has brought that to the Raiders so far on a comfortable deal.

Left tackle Kolton Miller - It's an absolute steal to get a franchise left tackle on an average salary of less than $20 million per year.

Over the years, Miller has improved to become one of the best left tackles in the NFL. He is on a three-year, $54-million contract. That makes him just the ninth-highest-paid left tackle in the NFL.

The Raiders still have a quarterback decision to make, but they can rest easy knowing that quarterback will be protected by Miller, and he will do so on a relatively team-friendly deal.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
