Zamir "Zeus" White is Proof Las Vegas Raiders Can Make the Most of the NFL Draft

The Las Vegas Raiders drafted Zamir White in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and is the featured runnnig back entering his junior campaign.

Rightfully so, much of the buzz around the Las Vegas Raiders ahead of this month's NFL Draft is about who the club takes with its first-round pick.

What is often overlooked when it comes to the draft, however, is the fact that a team's best pick does not always come out of Day 1.

In 2022, the Raiders did not have a pick until the third round, but now, three of their selections from that draft are likely to start next season. One of those picks was running back Zamir White of Georgia, who has arguably turned out to be Las Vegas' best addition from the 2022 draft.

The Raiders selected White in the fourth round, and he went on to get the minimal reps you would expect a Day-3 prospect to have in their first season.

But White, of course, took the AFC West by storm in his second season, helping the Raiders defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos in Las Vegas' final stretch of the 2023 season. White averaged around 108 rushing yards between those three games, including a career-high 145 rushing yards in the Raiders' upset against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas Day.

White had filled in for an injured Josh Jacobs, who departed for the Green Bay Packers this offseason. Considering the outstanding late-season display White put on last year, the starting running back spot will likely be his next season.

White is the epitome of why you shouldn't underestimate a Day-3 pick. He proved to be one of the biggest steals of the 2022 NFL Draft, and it only took him a couple seasons to do so.

So, if the Raiders don't hit a home run with their first-round pick this year, there's always a chance it could be OK. And new general manager Tom Telesco has an eye for young talent, which is not limited to just first-round prospects.

For the sake of morale within Raider Nation, yes, it is important Telesco and his staff make a good decision with the 13 overall pick, but maybe don't panic right away if you don't approve.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
