Fernando Mendoza Displayed 1 Critical Trait With Pro Day Performance

Fernando Mendoza is the clear No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. All the noise over the last few weeks about him not being the best quarterback in this draft class was all noise.

That is something that came out of left field, and maybe they wanted something to talk about with only weeks left till draft night. Mendoza has been the first overall pick, and that is not going to change. He was the best all last season in college, and this past week, we showed why he will be picked to start the draft.

This past week, the Heisman Trophy winner and National Champion put on a show in front of many scouts and NFL head coaches. He clearly looked the best, but that was not the story coming out of his Pro Day.

It was much more than that, and you could see it on the field, and how Mendoza went about his Pro Day. We had already heard why Mendoza did not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine. Mendoza wanted to help his teammates as well and show what they could do at the next level.

Mendoza as a Teammate is something Special to See

That was certainly the case at his NFL Pro Day. Mendoza put on a show, but the routes his wide receivers ran were all about showing off their skills in front of all the NFL personnel that were there. Mendoza did not shy away from throwing the route tree for his wide receivers.

Sometimes, you do not see quarterbacks go all out like that and only want to throw certain routes and locations. Mendoza was there for his teammates as much as the scouts who were there to see him.

Away from all the traits that Mendoza has as a quarterback, his leadership and being the type of teammate that he is are what make him special. That is why teams want to see from a top prospect, especially at the quarterback position.

Mendoza has been that teammate for a long time, and he is not going to change that at the NFL level. He wants to be the best for his teammates and whatever makes his team better. His being the leader is a key to the team's overall success.
