Ravens NFL Draft WR Tyler Scott: Day 2 Value?

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens are expected to upgrade their stable of wide receivers through the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Baltimore Ravens are expected to channel their inner “Top Gun” by filling a “need for speed” in April's NFL Draft.

As their scouting contingent descends upon Indianapolis for the combine, the Ravens are likely to be keeping a sharp eye on the wide receivers.

In what is (by consensus) considered to be one of their biggest needs, several draft analysts have Baltimore using first-round draft capital on a top-flight wideout.

In fact, numerous reports have them linked to Boston College standout Zay Flowers

Still, should Baltimore choose to address its need at cornerback, edge rush, or on the offensive line with pick No. 22, they may seek the services of a speedy receiver on day two.

Enter Cincinnati’s Tyler Scott.

Measuring in at 5-11 and 177 pounds, Scott is one of the most explosive athletes in 2023’s draft class. He possesses top-level speed which allows him to separate from his defenders on the majority of his routes.

However, his quickness also allows him the opportunity to make plays in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field. Due to his opponents’ respect for his speed, defensive backs tend to play him deep. As a result, Scott is often left alone for potential short-yardage gains.

With receivers Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson headed for free agency, Baltimore will address their need for depth at the position. Though emerging pass-catchers Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay, and James Proche provide optimism for the future, the team could use an infusion of speed.

Additionally, the departure of former offensive coordinator Greg Roman will likely mean a shift in philosophy for the Ravens' offensive schemes. While newly-installed OC Todd Monken is quite adept at scheming to maximize the skill set of mobile quarterbacks, he is at his best when devising an overall strategy involving third-down efficiency and red zone scoring strikes.

In light of the uncertainty surrounding Jackson’s future in Baltimore, the Ravens will almost certainly be keeping their draft options open, either on day one or day two.

Whether Scott factors into those options will be determined within the coming months.
