Sleeper Seahawks: Seattle Surprise Super Bowl Pick!

Pro Football Network is tabbing the Seattle Seahawks as its Super Bowl "sleeper" pick from the NFC.

OTAs are a long way from LVIII.

But as the Seattle Seahawks kick their offseason program into high gear this week, some NFL experts are also already cranking up the expectations. The wise guys over at Pro Football Network, in fact, are tabbing the Seahawks as their NFC "sleeper" pick to play in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas next February.

Writes PFN:

This is a team with the raw talent and the right playmakers to get there if everything breaks the right way. That’s worth taking a flier on as a deep sleeper.

Predictions made before the pads are put on are, of course, always dicey. But there are valid reasons to believe Seattle is capable of making the jump from Wild Card to Super Bowl.

Just like the Philadelphia Eagles did last year.

In 2021 the Eagles sneaked into the playoffs at 9-8 and lost their playoff game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The next year? They went 14-3 and came within three points of beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks in 2022 went 9-8 and sneaked into the playoffs, only to lose at the San Francisco 49ers. So ...

In justifying its sleeper pick, PFN notes the expected improvement of quarterback Geno Smith, an offense sure to score more points with rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and an upgraded defense with the additions of returning veterans Bobby Wagner and Jamal Adams and top draft choice Devon Witherspoon.

Writes PFN:

With the combination of adding star power and a higher floor of competence in Tariq Woolen, Witherspoon, and Adams, the Seahawks’ secondary can become more of an asset outside of producing an occasional interception.
