Seahawks Postgame Quotes vs. Titans That Matter From Mike Macdonald

The Seattle Seahawks are heading home in the loss column once again after falling 19-16 to the Tennessee Titans in their second preseason game.

While the final score doesn't tell the full story, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald expressed disappointment about not coming out on top.

"Look, we're trying to win games. So ultimately, the goal is—we fell short in that department, which I actually think it's going to be a really great opportunity for our team to learn from this on how we manage games and the things you need to be able to do in the second half to win football games, first half included," Macdonald said postgame.

Seahawks Struggle in Second Half vs. Titans

The Seahawks scored on three drives in the first quarter, building a 16-3 lead after the first 15 minutes of the contest. It showed that the Seahawks are moving in the right direction in some areas.

"But the bright side is I really do feel like our team got better this week from the work that we got in practice, and I thought we did a lot of great things, especially earlier in this game, which is what we're looking for. I think we took a step. I think we're improving. I think the important thing for our team is that we have to shed an expectation about where we need to be right now," Macdonald said.

"I think the focus needs to be about how fast can we improve on a daily basis, and our guys have had that attitude. So through that lens, I think it was a successful week. But ultimately, we want to be able to win these games. But we definitely made an improvement from last week, so let's keep going."

Most of the Seahawks starters did not participate in the game, which likely explains Macdonald's feelings a little bit. The Seahawks played most of their second-stringers in the earlier part of the game, while the back half of the roster took over for the second half.

Bud Clark Injury Shakes Things Up

The defining moment from the game came in the early part of the first quarter when rookie second-round pick Bud Clark broke his ankle, ending his entire first season in the league. It was an unfortunate injury, but the Seahawks still have to find a way to work around it.

"We had two really tough injuries today. Bud has a broken ankle to my knowledge. Severity I'm not sure, but he's going to be out multiple months. We're going to try to figure out what's going on with Mason (Richman), but we also think that's a major injury, a long-term injury," Macdonald said.

"Two guys that we love, that play our style of ball, that are our type of guys. Teammates love them. Great teammates, great guys, great football players. They have great futures. It's a really—it's a heartbreaker, honestly. We had three heartbreakers this week, which is tough."

With Clark likely heading to injured reserve, it opens up some competition in the secondary for a spot on the 53-man roster. Macdonald spoke highly of some players who could take that opportunity.

"Yeah, we're going to have to re-evaluate where we're at. But we saw some good things out AJ (Finley) and D'Anthony (Bell), so we'll see. Max(en Hook) I think did some good stuff, but we'll definitely have to re-evaluate," Macdonald said.

The Seahawks will have the upcoming week to evaluate alternative options with their preseason finale on Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs and the roster cutdown deadline for Sunday.
