Texans Bobby Slowik Says Houston Offense Will Be 'Aggressive, Fast, And Decisive'

Newly hired Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik not afraid to run with rookie players this season as Houston aims to turn things around in a hurry.

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and company are on a mission to turn things around.

With a brand new coaching staff and a plethora of new players getting ready to enter the franchise, newly hired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik was rather blunt when discussing the upcoming season.

Especially in terms of what he believes the identity of the Texans needs to be in 2023.

"I believe this to my core. If you get in a room when you're by yourself and you turn on film, our character should show through when you watch our offense," Slowik told the media inside NRG Stadium on Wednesday,

Slowik, 35, takes over as the Texans' offensive coordinator after spending the past three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, most recently as the team's offensive passing game coordinator.

"Unfortunately, we had to go through three quarterbacks last year," Slowik said. "We had 'Mr. Irrelevant' [rookie Brock Purdy] who did one heck of a job for us in San Francisco by taking us all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

"I think how you structure the entire thing, offense, that includes defense, that includes special teams, everything plays a hand in how it all goes together."

The former 49er turned Texans offensive coordinator echoed his stance on Houston following in San Francisco's successful footsteps.

"When you get in a room by yourself, and you turn on what we call 'the silent tape,' you're going to feel a team that's very aggressive, that's fast, that's decisive, there's no hesitation, everyone knows what we're doing, and we enjoy playing the game," Slowik said. "That, overall, is what we want to do on offense. Putting our guys in the best position to do what they do best."

As Houston enters April's NFL Draft with two picks in the first round -- No. 2 and No. 12 -- it will hope to have a solid play-caller to build around as the upcoming season looms.

Will that be Alabama's Bryce Young or Ohio State's C.J. Stroud?

Or will the Texans shock the world by napping the likes of Florida's Anthony Richardson or Kentucky's Will Levis?

We'll all know that answer on April 27 in Kansas City.
