Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is currently going through his first full offseason as an NFL player, and head coach DeMeco Ryans expects him to benefit from it.

Rather than focusing on preparation for the 2023 NFL Draft and eventually learning Houston’s playbook, Stroud is able to build off a successful rookie campaign.

“He continued to progress and get better throughout the entire year, so we’re very excited about what he was able to do,” Ryans said of Stroud via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. “Now, can he pick up where he left, right? Can he master those things and continue to lead our team in a way that he’s done it… still knowing our same scheme, same system so he’s already a step ahead of where he started last year.

Stroud threw for 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns with five interceptions last season. Houston finished 10-7 and could be better next season due to the additions of running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

Mixon rushed for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns on 257 carries last season. He caught 52 passes for 376 yards and three scores. Meanwhile, Diggs is fresh off a campaign where he caught 107 passes for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

Both Nico Collins and Tank Dell are back with the team are strong showings in 2023. Collins finished with 80 catches for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns. Dell had 47 catches for 709 yards and seven touchdowns.
