NASHVILLE - The 2023 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and with it will come 31 new first-round selections and 259 total picks over its three-day run. It will be a dream come true if you are one of the lucky ones who hear their name called throughout the seven rounds.

However, it will be even more for the luckier few who hear their names announced on day one; it could be life-changing. This is the one event where players from the smallest schools can compete against those from the largest.

However, when looking at the first round, those smaller schools pale compared to their larger counterparts regarding the number of first-round draft selections they produce.

So which schools have produced the most round-one picks in the common draft era (1967-2022)?

Entering 2023, the team could have three more players taken in this year's opening round.

Ohio State(74) leads USC (73) by the slimmest margin entering 2023. The Trojans have just one projected first-rounder this time, meaning the Buckeyes will hold onto that lead for a little longer.

Currently, No.3 on the list is the other school, which like Ohio State, is projected to add three more to its total in the opening round this year.

Alabama, with 66, followed by Miami (62), and Florida (54) round out the top five.

The remainder of the top ten includes Florida State (46), Notre Dame (45), Michigan (42), and Tennessee (40).

Two-time defending national champion Georgia (38) sits currently just outside the top ten, followed by fellow SEC member LSU (37), tied with future SEC member Oklahoma (37) and Penn State (37).

Georgia has two potential first-round performers this year, while Tennessee also has one or more who could be taken early.

As the old saying goes, the rich get richer, and that's certainly the case when it comes to the top talent entering college football each year.
