Steelers Hiring Former Titans Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith

Arthur Smith, a longtime Tennessee Titans assistant coach who recently was fired after three seasons in charge of the Atlanta Falcons, reportedly has a new gig: offensive coordinator with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

NASHVILLE — Former Tennessee Titans assistant Arthur Smith will be the Pittsburgh Steelers' new offensive coordinator, according to multiple reports.

Smith spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach with the Titans before being hired as the Atlanta Falcons' head coach. He was fired this offseason after three consecutive 7-10 seasons without a playoff berth.

Smith started his NFL coaching career with the Titans. He wore several hats over 10 years, including offensive line coach, tight ends coach, and offensive coordinator.

In 2019 and 2020, Smith guided one of the NFL's top offenses, with the Titans leading the league in red zone touchdown percentage (75.2), ranking fifth in points per game (27.9), and fifth in total offense (379.6). He oversaw the second-ranked rushing attack in the NFL, averaging 153.5 yards per game on the ground.

Derrick Henry had some of his best years as a Titan with Smith as coordinator. Henry gained 1,540 and 2,027 rushing yards in consecutive seasons.

Ryan Tannehill was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career in 2019 and was named the Comeback Player of the Year by both the Associated Press and the Pro Football Writers of America. Tannehill had 6,561 passing yards with 55 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and a 110.6 passer rating while completing 67.3 percent of his passes in 26 starts with Smith calling the plays.

In the 2020 season, the Titans offense finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the league in total yards per game (396.4) and No. 2 overall in rushing yards per game (168.1). Henry also scored 17 touchdowns. The Titans also fourth in the league in scoring, putting up 30.7 points per game.
