NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have made a lot of moves to start the 2023 offseason, but so far they have all been about subtracting players from the roster to save money. Finally, the Titans have made a move to keep a player on their roster in 2023 with a new contract extension for long snapper Morgan Cox.

The details and price of Cox’s new contract are not public at this time, but looking at his previous salary with the Titans gives us a generally idea of where it will be. Cox hit the Titans' cap for just over $1 million in 2022 and $1.3 million in 2021. The Titans will most likely be giving Cox a deal in that range again.

Cox is still at the top of his game. One key characteristic for a good long snapper in the NFL is being relatively unknown. You typically only hear the long snapper’s name during a broadcast if they make a mistake. So, if you had never heard Cox's name before, that shows you how great he is at the job.

Cox has played in every possible game since joining the Titans prior to the 2021 season. He also made the pro bowl in 2022. Prior to joining the Titans, Cox played 11 seasons for the Baltimore Ravens. During that time in Baltimore, Cox appeared in four pro bowls and made first-team all-pro once. He has continued that level of play with the Titans.

Cox also has some local history as well. Cox is a Tennessee resident having been born in Collierville, TN. Cox also attended the University of Tennessee during college. He is a hometown success story and having him wrap up the final years of his career on the Titans has to be a cool thing to witness for the local crowd.

While Cox’s extension is technically a roster move, Titans fans will surely be hungry for something with a little more weight. They shouldn’t have to wait long as NFL Free Agency kicks off next week. The Titans currently have around $27 million in cap space, although the deal with Cox probably takes off about $1 million in cap space from that $27 million total. More moves will be coming soon.
