Report: Titans Request Interview With Ravens DB Coach Dennard Wilson For DC Job

Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan has reportedly requested an interview with Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson for the defensive coordinator job. Wilson has more than a decade of NFL coaching experience.

New Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan is working quickly to assembly his staff in Nashville. He has requested to interview Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson for the defensive coordinator job.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the news on Thursday, just hours prior to Callahan's introductory press conference. He was officially named the team's coach Wednesday

Wilson joined John Harbaugh's staff in Baltimore before the 2023 season. He had previous stops with the Philadelphia Eagles (2021-22), New York Jets (2017-20) and St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams (2012-16).

Baltimore owned one of the top pass defenses in the NFL in 2023. The Ravens allowed just 5.9 yards per pass, tied for the best average in the league (Cleveland Browns). Opponents only completed 60.6% of their passes, the fifth-best defensive average last year.

The Ravens also intercepted 18 passes and allowed just 18 touchdown passes. Wilson also coached one Pro Bowl selection, safety Kyle Hamilton.

Wilson has worked with some big-time defensive backs in the NFL, including Jamal Adams, James Bradberry, Marcus Maye and Darius Slay. He was also part of the Eagles' defensive staff that reached Super Bowl LVII.

It's easy to understand why Callahan would want to add someone like Wilson to the staff. Last year, the Titans were dreadful in pass defense, ranking near the bottom of the NFL in multiple categories.

The Titans ranked 19th in opponent yards per pass (7.3), 29th in opponent completion percentage (67.8%). and 32nd in interceptions (six).

Though he's never been a defensive coordinator, Wilson has the experience and success to help transform Tennessee's secondary. Entering 2024, that's a big area of concern for the Titans.
