NASHVILLE - The end of the 2022 season was one of the worst in the history of the Tennessee Titans here in Nashville, as the team limped across the finish line riding a seven-game losing streak, en route to handing the AFC South title to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the process.

While injuries can be blamed for much of the team's struggles, including season-ending losses of left tackle Taylor Lewan and quarterback Ryan Tannehill, among others, plus poor play from several replacements, turned a solid start for the Titans into a ride on the Titanic.

As the Titans and the rest of the NFL prepare for the coming season, and now that the schedules have been released, it's imperative that this team gets off to a good start, in part to begin to remove the bad taste left from the losing streak, as well as sending a message to the rest of the league, and the AFC South in particular, that this franchise is not the one that crawled home to end 2022, but the team that had owned the South the previous two seasons.

Of course, the unknown factor in this is injuries. The Titans have endured more than their fair share of injuries to key players over the last two seasons, and if that trend continues, it could once again be a long season. However, the odds would suggest that this team is due for some better fortunes on that front this season, but only time will tell.

All that brings us to the schedule, which begins on Sept 10 in New Orleans, where the Saints will be playing their first game with Derek Carr as their starting quarterback. Getting a team with a veteran but new signal-caller in game one is a break for the Titans in the Big Easy.

It's a must-win game to start the season, and if the Titans can get it, they could be on their way to a surprising season.

At the same time, a loss could set the tone for another bad season.
