NASHVILLE - It's coming, and chances are fans of the Tennessee Titans aren't going to be happy with it when it does.

What exactly "it" is in terms of which player(s) remains to be seen, but the Titans will have to cut, restructures, or trade some people to get where they need to be moving forward into 2023.

Of late, there have been rumors flying around  Derrick Henry, Kevin Byard, Jeffrey Simmons, Ryan Tannehill, and others as possible chips to be traded, restructured, or cut. Nothing has happened with any of these players as of this writing. Still, it seems impossible for the team to continue retooling in free agency without something happening regarding one or more of these contracts.

We could spend half a day and five thousand words talking about possible scenarios here (and all the numbers that go with it), and we still might not cover what will happen, but now this, something is coming.

Conventional wisdom says Simmons might be the first step here. Getting him under contract, and hopefully with some team-friendly terms, while also taking care of the player seems a good starting point.

After that, can they do something with Henry and Byard to help them and allow both players to remain on the roster?

Tannehill, however, is the biggest issue. His cap number is the biggest of all, and if the Titans decide to restructure and extend (that's the word Titans fans didn't want to see) him, that would likely mean the team will be sticking with him as their quarterback for the next season at least.

While Tannehill's play in the last few games he participated in wasn't stellar, he's not been the biggest on-field issue this team has had. He might never be able to carry a team to a title alone, but he can play winning football if, and it's a big if, he has the playmakers around him.

Regardless of what might be coming our way in terms of moves by the Titans, fans should brace themselves because there is a real possibility that this retool will turn into a full-blown rebuild in the coming days.
