3 Standouts and 2 Disappointments from Titans Preseason Win vs. Seahawks

With roster spots on the line, three standouts and two disappointments rise above the rest in the Tennessee Titans' preseason win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Tennessee Titans improved to 2-0 in the preseason tonight with their comeback win over the Seattle Seahawks, 19-16. A great crowd in Nashville came out for what was ultimately a slow-rolling contest resulting in a home victory. The Titans trailed 16-3 after the first quarter.

With roster cuts due just one week from today, on Aug. 30, multiple Titans players came into this contest with their NFL status on the line. Tennessee had plenty to take a closer look at on either side of the ball by the time the final whistle blew.

We've got the three biggest standouts, as well as the two greatest disappointments, from game two.

Standout: Julius Chestnut

Chestnut is likely in contention with Kalel Mullings for the Titans' final spot in the running back room. For the second week in a row, he made a convincing case in tonight's contest to carry his role into the regular season.

Leading Tennessee's backfield with 48 yards on seven carries, the fifth-year back proved his willingness to do the dirty work as a fringe veteran that has long embraced being a depth piece in Nashville. The lone Titans touchdown of the night went to recent signee D'Ernest Johnson, but Chestnut's consistency this offseason bodes extremely well for his chances of making the cut next week.

Disappointment: Will Levis

Levis entered this game fighting for his NFL career. His 3/8 passing, three-sack performance in Tennessee's preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers set a negative tone for his roster outlook, and Levis did little tonight to make up any ground there.

Save for a diving run that kept the Titans' aforementioned touchdown drive alive, Levis went just 4/9 for 15 yards passing and, again, took a sack. He overthrew open receivers when he had them and continued to rely on the ground game to a predictable degree, notching 15 yards on four rushes.

It simply wasn't enough to inspire any confidence in Levis, which is made worse by just how near cut day now is. It also didn't help that fourth-string passer Hendon Hooker came in and completed one ball to match Levis' total yardage.

Standout: Anthony Hill Jr.

Anthony Hill Jr. is the only Titans rookie to catch a pass this preseason. Carnell Tate's struggles can be mostly ignored due to the starting offense's low snap count, at least for the time.

Hill, on the other hand, accounted for the Titans' first of two interceptions vs. Seattle on a sneaky play underneath. He also finished with a team-high seven tackles in an effort from the linebacker that defined an otherwise lackluster night from Robert Saleh's defense.

Between Hill (second round) making impact plays and Fernando Carmona (fifth round) pulling away for the starting right guard position, it's been Tennessee's rookies beyond the first round that have truly surprised ahead of the regular season.

Disappointment: Cor'Dale Flott

What's left to say about Cor'Dale Flott in the preseason at this point? We're stuck between worrying about him for the regular season and considering excusing his consistent shortcomings due to the limited looks we've had at the cornerback so far.

Whichever way you decide to tackle it, Flott looked outmatched once again tonight. Prior to sitting with the starters in the first half, Flott's only notable play was an illegal contact penalty that canceled out an interception from safety Kevin Winston Jr.

Titans fans will hold out until September to make any lasting judgements, but it's been bad break after bad break this month thus far.

Standout: Joey Slye

Look at Joey Slye go. Between his showings against the 49ers and Seahawks this preseason, Slye is a perfect 8-8. To think that Tennessee was trying out kickers earlier this offseason as potential replacements is hard to imagine in light of Slye's recent play.

Slye, who played for five different teams prior to his stop in Nashville, may have found a sturdy home with the baby blue and red. Slye hitting this stride couldn't come at a better time, as the Titans' young offense experiences growing pains that are bound to continue throughout the year.

He's a reliable offensive piece and, once again this week, a massive standout for Tennessee.
