Titans Named as Potential Trade Back Team by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler

The Tennessee Titans have gone through significant changes this offseason and with that comes significant draft uncertainty. The Titans could choose to make moves all over the board which includes moving up, but it appears some teams around the NFL believe the Titans could be more inclined to trade down.

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have made numerous changes during the offseason throughout different levels of the organization. They hired a new general manager in Ran Carthon and also made a ton of promotions, demotions and hires on the coaching staff. Add in the changes to the roster and you can see how new of a team this really is. The changes lend themselves to a new level of draft uncertainty.

There aren’t as many habits and as much data to go off of to predict what the Titans might do like there has been in year’s past. Carthon is bringing a new element to the franchise that could see them do things they have never done before. This fact makes every rumor you hear about the Titans during the pre-draft process more believable. We have heard they could move up in the draft, maybe even for a quarterback, but according to recent buzz from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Titans are also a team the league thinks could move down.

“While many are pegging Tennessee as a candidate to grab a quarterback high, some teams believe the Titans could be looking to accumulate picks via a trade back,” Fowler explained. “The roster needs reinforcements at more spots than just quarterback. Deepening the intrigue is what Tennessee does with Ryan Tannehill, who has a $36 million cap hit.”

Fowler also mentioned the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions as teams that could trade back. Hard to argue against the argument that Fowler makes for the Titans’ reasoning to move back. Yes, the roster is not a quarterback away from where it needs to be, but at the same time it’s also logical to start with a passer you believe in and then build around him. So, if that is an option it may be more enticing.

The Titans could find sound logic to justify a move in either direction and that leads us back to the uncertainty. The roster and team are in a place where any direction the choose to go could end fruitful. The only thing that has to happen is a commitment to that direction after the decision is made. Watching it all unfolds surely will be fascinating.
