Tennessee Titans Add OL Jimmy Murray While Waiving WR Jacob Copeland

In this story:
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans always churn their roster during this time of year, swapping players in and out to try and make the best 53-man roster possible. We saw them finally begin to do that on Wednesday with a pair of roster transactions.
The first move we saw was a signing. The Titans brought in interior offensive lineman Jimmy Murray. Murray actually spent some time with the Titans organization in 2021, but will now return and compete for a spot on the interior offensive line.
Murray is a 6-foot-5, 305-pounder out of Holy Cross. Murray went undrafted in 2018, but landed with the Kansas City Chiefs and actually played in two games with KC. Murray only got 12 snaps on special teams though and never saw the field on offense.
Since that 2018 season, Murray has floated around the league on practice squads. Murray spent time with the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens after the stint with the Chiefs. Murray's last team was actually the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent all of 2022 on the practice squad.
At Tuesday's practice, backup center Corey Levin was not seen. We don't know at this time if it is injury related, but if Levin is hurt, Murray makes some sense as another body that can play some center in practice even if he is a longshot to make the roster.
The Titans needed to make room for Murray and did so by waiving rookie wide receiver Jacob Copeland. Copeland had a nice summer for the Titans, but hasn't been able to standout so far in training camp.
Copeland was an undrafted free agent out of Maryland that displayed immense speed. That speed clearly wasn't something that translated to the field enough for Mike Vrabel to keep him around.
This shouldn't be a surprise though. The NFL removed weekly cuts after preseason games and set only one cutdown day after the final preseason game. With that, we may see less churn than normal, but as you can see here, there will still be some moving parts.
Murray should have the chance to hit the field for the Titans at practice on Thursday.
