NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans are continuing to shape their roster ahead of training camp. First, they made the big splash by landing DeAndre Hopkins, but now they can sure up the offensive tackle position with veteran free agent George Fant.

According to a report from Jordan Schultz, the Titans will bring Fant in for a visit and workout on Saturday with the intention to sign him for the season. This is clearly a reaction to the six-game suspension of starting right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere, but a move the Titans needed to make regardless.

Fant has a ton of starting experience on both sides of the offensive line and isn't too far removed from a fantastic season with the New York Jets. In 2020 and 2021, Fant combined to start 29 games for the Jets. 14 of those games came at right tackle while the others came at left tackle, displaying Fant's versatility.

In that 2021 season at left tackle, Fant only gave up one sack and 18 pressures. At right tackle in 2020, Fant wasn't as clean, but only giving up three sacks and 33 pressures throughout the year would be less than what the Titans got at tackle last season.

Fant dealt with a knee injury in 2022 that led to him only playing in eight games and not playing very well in them. Now healthy, Fant could come in with the idea of starting in that right tackle spot.

After the six-game suspension of Petit-Frere ends, the Titans can continue to start Fant if he is playing well or put Petit-Frere back in the lineup and let Fant be a great backup-tackle option. Fant makes perfect sense, no matter the outcome.

It remains to be seen whether the Titans sign Fant after the weekend, but clearly the Titans made the call and as Fant promised, that is all they had to do.
