Tennessee Titans Will Levis Not Participating in Scrimmage at Tuesday's Practice

In this story:
The Tennessee Titans were meant to have joint practices this week with the New England Patriots, but after a cancellation, the Titans decided to have a team scrimmage on Tuesday instead. Will Levis stretched with the team, but was not in pads and did not participate further.

The Titans' rookie quarterback didn't play in the team's second preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings and now will miss Tuesday's practice. Which leaves Levis' ability to play in the final preseason game against the New England Patriots in question.
That would be a big blow to Levis' chances of winning the backup quarterback job this year after being drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft. Levis has been competing with second-year player Malik Willis and Levis' injury gives Willis a big advantage.
Willis got to play the entire game against the Vikings and get valuable reps to help with his development. With Ryan Tannehill set the be the starter, Friday night's game could be the last chance for either quarterback to get live game reps until the 2024 preseason.
If that plays out, and Tannehill stays healthy and productive, not playing in either of the team's last two preseason games could set Levis' development back quite a bit. That not only hurts the Titans' backup role in 2023, but their chance of having Levis as the starter in 2024.
Ryan Tannehill is currently playing on the last year of his contract with the team, so there is clearly more at stake than just a backup quarterback job.
Levis was seen throwing passes during practice and did warm up in pads before the game against the Vikings. Mike Vrabel said on Monday the team wasn't planning on adding a third quarterback. All of that points to Levis' injury not being a serious one, but surely it would be disappointing if the rookie couldn't play this Friday.
We will monitor his status going forward and provide more updates as the week unfolds.
