NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans’ offense is one of the worst in the NFL. With little talent on the offensive line and a mid-tier quarterback it will be hard to be rated high in any offensive rankings, but a recent ranking done by Mike Clay from ESPN quantified just how bad of a spot the Titans are in.

Mike Clay, a data guru from ESPN, put together a list of every NFL team and ranked them in five different categories. Clay ranked quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end and offensive line and then assigned an overall grade based on the totals from the five categories.

It should be no surprise, but the Titans ranked dead last at wide receiver and offensive line, receiving a grade of 0.1. Only five scores of 0.1 were given out in the entire NFL and the Titans are the only team to have two of them. A thought that is hard to disagree with, but is also terrifying for Titans’ fans.

The Titans ranked much higher at the other three positions. At quarterback, the Titans ranked 22nd in grade at 1.4. The Titans ranked 26th in tight end grade at 0.9. As will be no surprise, the Titans highest grade came at running back. Bolstered by Derrick Henry, the Titans ranked as the fourth best running back group at a 3.6. The highest grade given out for any position was a 4.0.

As for overall grade, the Titans ranked number 30 out of the 32 teams with a 0.6 composite score. The only teams worse were the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans. Two teams expected to get a massive upgrade at quarterback in the NFL Draft. It is possible the Titans are dead last in overall rating by May.

While these ratings are subjective and we are far from knowing the final roster, the Titans are clearly in a terrible spot on offense and have done very little to improve in free agency. Hopefully, the Titans are able to find some improvements on the trade market and in the draft, but if Clay’s rankings turn out to be correct, it could be a long season in Nashville.
