Travis Kelce’s First Chiefs Press Comments As a Married Man Show He Hasn’t Changed One Bit

Hearing Trav refer to his wife will never get old.

Married life changes people. But not Travis Kelce.

Sure, some things are different. Kelce has allegedly been open to trying more diverse cuisines ever since he started dating Taylor Swift, and the two might be new parents to a fluffy white dog, based on rampant rumors online. But when it comes to the NFL, the main thing stays the main thing for Kelce, who remains just as much of a lovable goofball at heart as he is a respected leader in the Chiefs’ locker room.

Kelce took the podium for the first time at Kansas City training camp this summer and was naturally asked about his Madison Square Garden wedding, a mostly private, closed-door ceremony that was, at the same time, a tremendous era-defining, sociocultural moment. No confirmed pictures have since leaked from the event, and all the public really knows for sure is that Adam Sandler officiated it, and that it (rather controversially) took place at the Knicks’ home arena.

Kelce didn’t provide any more significant details in his first comments about his wedding, but he did open up about what it meant to him to tie the knot at MSG. To the delight of Swifties everywhere, he also publicly referred to the pop star as his wife for the very first time.

“You know, I always told myself I’d go [to MSG] for a playoff game when the Knicks were rocking, my wife went when I was stuck in minicamp so I didn’t get my opportunity to go then,” Kelce said Wednesday. “It’s kinda cool to be able to live out my childhood dream to be in that venue, the mecca of all sports venues, being able to get married in there. Can’t thank the owners of MSG for allowing us to get the opportunity to do that, knowing that we wanted a private event and everything. It was perfect. And the AC was cooking, baby, that’s the best part.”

“It was a fun offseason, man,” added Kelce. “The wedding was the best night of my life. I appreciate everybody who came out and celebrated and had fun with us. ... It was a crazy night, it was full of a lot of celebration, but it’s football, baby.”

It’s been a little over a month since America’s royal wedding, and it’s safe to say the Chiefs tight end is still enjoying his honeymoon phase, even if he didn’t get too much time to celebrate the joyous occasion. He and the Chiefs will be back on the field as soon as this Saturday to face the Rams in their preseason opener, which quarterback Patrick Mahomes is expected to sit out of as he continues his ACL rehab.

As for Kelce, he couldn’t be more excited to enter his 14th NFL campaign. He was in his vintage enthusiastic form on the podium talking about how he and his teammates were preparing to bounce back this season:

“I still got a lot of love for this game. I still think I can go out and play at a high level, and I want to go out there and prove to myself that I can play at a better level than I did last year. I think that’s probably the biggest thing for me, is to make sure I’m accountable for the guys in this room and for every single play that I’m out there.”

Kelce, who turns 37 in October, missed the playoffs last season for the first time since 2014, his second year in the league. He was confident that he and the rest of the team would be able to learn from their mistakes while continuing to preach the need for accountability, as he has often done in the past.

The fun-loving tight end couldn’t resist another Mahomes-Kermit impression either, playfully poking fun at his quarterback just like old times:

“One of the most surprising things you’ll ever find out about playing with Pat Mahomes is the guy’s got a good cadence. There’s some with the frequency—“ Kelce dipped into his Kermit the Frog voice “—of his voice, and when he says, ‘HUT HUT’ it really gets you to—so everybody’s just gotta, mentally when you’re tired, you really got to lock in. Because that frequency can get you to jump no matter what. ... Everybody knows I love that guy, that’s a brother to me. So proud of the way he handled adversity from last year to right now, obviously we’ve still got less than a month ‘til the first game, but you see him out there, you see him enjoying the game, competing at a high level and not thinking about the knee. And he’s playing his tail off right now, and leading us, is the biggest thing.”

Kelce went on to give Mahomes his flowers for consistently leading by example and setting the right competitive tone at camp year after year.

As for rumors surrounding his impending retirement, Kelce didn’t say anything definitive about whether he’s going to hang it up after this year. His production has steadily declined, and he’s arguably suffered as many heartbreaking losses as glorious triumphs in the last two seasons. Regardless of how his 2026 campaign plays out, Kelce spoke fondly about what could very likely be his final training camp with the guys.

“Like I said, [Chiefs’ camp] has a special place in my heart. A lot of it is due to the fans coming up here and showing love every single day, it doesn’t go unnoticed. A lot of times that gets you through the dog days and the tough days. It’s definitely some place that I’ll always remember when I think about football,” said Kelce.
