A guide to this morning's must-read hockey stories:

Brent Seabrook demonstrated how far the Hawks are willing to go to keep their hot streak rolling. After holding off a Kings rally, Chicago is now one game away from tying the record for consecutive games with at least one point from the start of the season.

• Steve Begin doesn't score often, but he has a spectacular sense of timing. The gritty forward buried an OT clincher for Boston on May 1, 2010, then waited 1,023 days before scoring again -- last night's game-winner as Calgary came back from down 3-1 to beat Dallas 4-3.

• John Tortorella hates the media again and the Rangers returned to their 2011-12 form in a 2-1 win over the Caps. Coincidence?

• Did Peter Laviolette receive the kiss of death on Sunday? Hard to believe that anyone would question his job security considering all the injuries Philly is dealing with, but you never know when it comes to the Flyers.

Sidney Crosby moved to within one point of the league scoring lead with three points in Pittsburgh's 4-3 win over the Sabres on Sunday. The loss left Sabres' netminder Ryan Miller steaming mad

• Boston's pushover power play clicked for the third time in four games and Tyler Seguin finally figured out that there are free bunnies for those who go to the net in Boston's 3-2 win in Winnipeg.

• Rookie Brendan Gallagher played his best game in a Habs' uniform on Saturday night, but his concussion, suffered late in the contest, now has the team wondering when he'll play next. The Hurricanes, who skate in Montreal tonight are wondering the same thing about Jeff Skinner after he crashed head-first into the boards on Saturday night.

• Roommates are virtually a thing of the past on NHL road trips in the wake of the new CBA.

• Not many people noticed when the Lightning acquired Benoit Pouliot from Boston for a bag of pucks, but that deal is starting to look like one of the off-season's best. Consistent net-front presence has earned the big winger 10 points through 14 games.

• CBC's Tim Wharnsby touches on the Olympics, Ales Hemsky and Tuesday's marquee match-up between Chicago and Vancouver in his Monday Morning Musings column.

• So maybe a little goaltending was all Ken Hitchcock and the Blues needed. They got another dose last night as rookie Jake Allen rang up another win on the road. If anyone thought his hot start was a fluke, he removed all doubt with this stop on an Alex Burrows breakaway in OT.

• The Red Wings play four games in six nights. Here's a breakdown of the week ahead.

• No team settles for the loser's point quite like the Panthers. They lost 18 of 25 OT/shootout situations last year, and yesterday tied a record for most consecutive OT losses.

• Is it too late for the Avs and Ryan O'Reilly to agree on a Matt Duchene-style contract?

• Think Roberto Luongo is feeling a little looser this year?

• Chicago's Soldier Field became college hockey central for the OfficeMax Hockey City Classic on Sunday. The doubleheader drew more than 50,000 to watch Miami take on Notre Dame and Minnesota battle Wisconsin.

• Outside of the Slanket, this guy looks pretty good for 101, eh?

might be the creepiest song ever?
