An annotated guide to this morning's must-read hockey stories:

• Don Cherry used part of Saturday's Coach's Corner to rip Roberto Luongo for his tweets during Vancouver's 6-1 loss to Dallas on Thursday night. Clearly there was a higher road for Lu to take here, but c'mon Grapes. You can't really blame the guy for having some fun with his former team, can you?

• Nice job by the Stars with their lavish banner-raising ceremony honoring Mike Modano last night in Dallas. And nice job by Mo keeping his emotions in check...for the most part.

• The night started with reflection on a past great, but the game that followed affirmed a pair of new stars are rising over Dallas.

The Loch Ness Monster appeared in Washington yesterday. Unfortunately, he doesn't play D.

• Steve Simmons considers the NHL's sorry treatment of former player Steve Moore and looks at the best way to become a general manager in his Sunday column.

• New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault took a cue from Team Canada on how to utilize one of his top players.

• Alex Nedeljkovic is already the greatest thing to come out of Parma, Ohio since The Ghoul but the legend of the the top-rated goalie for this year's draft is only starting to spread.

• Larry Brooks says the decision to return a first-round pick previously stripped from the Devils is just the latest example of Gary Bettman playing power politics. He also discusses Sean Avery's grievance settlement and an inevitable power shift coming to Vancouver.

• Bruce Garrioch ponders the grim determination of GMs to hold on to their first rounders at the deadline.

• Pretty vicious head-to-head hit by Minnesota's Erik Haula on Kari Lehtonen last night. Not sure it'll end in a suspension as Dallas fans are hoping, though, since Cody Eakin clearly gets his stick in Haula's feet. Take a look and see what you think:

Adam Henrique is on a ridiculous tear, scoring nine goals in six games since the Olympic break. Henny can't explain his hot hands, but my kids chalk it up to the time the three of them spent training together in Windsor last summer. Guess we'll go with that.

• Another night, another milestone for Jaromir Jagr.

• His point streak ended in last night's 2-1 loss to St. Louis, but Nathan MacKinnonstill looks like a great one.

• Forget the Red Wings. The Blues are now the rival that defines the Colorado Avalanche.

• Maybe the Avs should have set their sights a little lower. John Vogl says that with the league's deepest offense, an airtight defense and Ryan Miller between the pipes, the Blues are the favorites to win the Stanley Cup.

• Tony Gallagher says you'd have to go back 30 years to find a Vancouver Canucks team so confused and lacking in desire to compete. Geez, and that's after they'd won a game...

• What's a recently traded player to do when he's got too many groceries and no ride home from the store? Take to Twitter and hope someone is willing to pick him up, natch.

• Being dealt twice in 24 hours may have marked the end of the NHL career of Rusty Klesla. He won't report to the Buffalo Sabres and it sounds like he's considering returning to Europe next season.

They went through all this and still couldn't come up with a winner in the Ohio state high school hockey championship.
