The Ottawa Senators traded forward Jason Spezza to the Dallas Stars, the Senators announced on Tuesday. Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun first reported the trade

Dallas will receive Spezza and Ludvig Karlsson, and in exchange the Senators will get forward Alec Chiasson, prospects Alex Guptill and Nicholas Paul and a second-round pick in the 2015 NHL draft.

Spezza had been asking for a trade out of Ottawa, and reportedly a deal was recently in place to send him to the Nashville Predators until Spezza vetoed the move.

Spezza, who spent his entire career with the Senators, had 23 goals and 43 assists last season, ranking 17th in the league in the latter category.

He is due $4 million in 2014-15, the final season of a seven-year, $49 million contract.

Chiasson scored 13 goals and added 22 assists for the Stars in 2013-14.
