The Winnipeg Jets waived goalie Peter Budaj on Monday, just 24 hours after acquiring him from the Montreal Canadiens, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.

The moves comes as somewhat of a surprise, as Winnipeg's Ondrej Pavelec was questionable at best heading into the season and Michael Hutchinson, his backup, has appeared in three games in his career.

Rangers trade for Florida forward Joey Crabb

The Jets gave up Eric Tangradi, who had been waived, and it's unclear how the Jets plan to use the 32-year-old Budaj if they acquire him again after he clears waivers.

The 32-year-old Budaj was 10-8-3 with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage last season in 24 games backing up Carey Price
