San Jose Sharks winger John Scott has been suspended for punching an opposing player, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Wednesday.

The incident occurred during Monday night's game against the Ducks in Anaheim.

Scott skated toward the net while being pursued by Anaheim forward Tim Jackman. After a shot, Jackman appeared to shove Scott with his stick, and Scott responded by punching Jackman with his right hand.

Jackman lay on the ice, apparently dazed, after absorbing the punch. Scott was not assessed a penalty for his act.

Over 15 games this season, Scott has recorded one goal and one assist. The Sharks will face the Kings in Los Angeles on Saturday, followed by games against the Vancouver Canucks, Ducks and St. Louis Blues.
