The Minnesota Wild have acquired winger Sean Bergenheim and a seventh-round draft pick from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a third-round pick, the Wild announced Tuesday

Bergenheim, 31, had played for the Panthers since 2011. He was a healthy scratch in each of Florida's last six games and reportedly asked to be traded. Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports Bergenheim was "desperate to get out of Florida" and is "very happy" to go to Minnesota.

Bergenheim has 18 points in 39 games this season and averaged just over 14 minutes of ice time per game.

The Panthers are three points behind the Boston Bruins for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. The Wild have a one-point lead over the Calgary Flames for the final spot in the Western Conference.
