Red Wings prospect Andreas Athanasiou scored in spectacular fashion for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL on Tuesday.
Meet Andreas Athanasiou. Never heard of him or seen him play hockey?
Now you have.
Athanasiou plays for the Detroit Red Wings' AHL team, the Grand Rapids Griffins, who took on the Charlotte Checkers tonight.
About midway through the second period, Athanasiou stole the puck off one Checker, then made a sweet toe-drag around another before roofing it backhand behind Checkers goalie Drew MacIntyre.
Athanasiou is in his second year with the Griffins, though he played just two games last season after joining the team late. In 40 games this season entering Tuesday's action, the 20-year-old has racked up 26 points with 13 goals and 13 assists. Athanasiou was the No. 110 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft before spending several seasons in the OHL.
In 2013-14, the London, Ontario, native scored 95 points, fifth-most in the league.
