Report: New contract between Kings, center Anze Kopitar ‘far from done’

On Monday, Los Angeles Kings center Anze Kopitar scorched the Detroit Red Wings for four points in a 4–2 win. But it doesn’t look as if that incredible performance is translating into a new contract for the 28-year-old.
TSN’s Darren Dregerreported Tuesday night that a contract extension for the could-be UFA is “far from done.” Dreger went on to report that “there are components to this extension that have been agreed to, but there are also a number of pieces that they haven't signed off on—to the point, I'm told now, that it's almost at an impasse."
It had previously been reported by TSN’s Pierre LeBrun that a deal was “very close,” but that doesn’t appear to be the case now.

Regardless, Kopitar is doing everything he can on the ice to prove his case. He’s been on a tear as of late, with 15 points through his last nine games and 35 on the season.
Los Angeles next plays the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
