Stephen Drew to rejoin Red Sox on Monday, according to report

The Boston Red Sox are set to call up shortstop Stephen Drew on Monday, MassLive's Jason Mastrodonato reported Sunday.

Drew signed a prorated one-year, $14 million contract with the Red Sox on May 20, after holding out for a contract he thought suitable. Drew went 1-for-10 in three games with Triple-A Pawtucket, adding a walk.

Drew has not played with the Red Sox since he was a core component of their run last season to a World Series championship. He declined the team's qualifying offer in free agency, a move that dried up the market for his services, since any team that signed him would have had to have given up a first-round draft pick.

Drew hit .253 with 13 homers and 67 RBIs in 124 games with Boston last season, his first with the organization. Drew batted only .111 in the playoffs, but belted a key homer in Game 6 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In corresponding moves, according to the report, Boston will place outfielder Mike Carp on the 15-day disabled list, option third baseman Garin Cecchini back to Triple-A, and recall outfielder Daniel Nava. Xander Bogaerts, Drew’s replacement at shortstop, is also expected to move back to third base with Drew's return.
