Two defenders hoping to make a late push for inclusion in Jurgen Klinsmann's 2014 World Cup roster made themselves a little more visible on Saturday.

Fresh Sheffield Wednesday catch Oguchi Onyewu scored the winner in his club's 2-1 FA Cup victory over Rochdale, while Timmy Chandler helped put an end to Nürnberg's winless start to the Bundesliga season with a goal in its 4-0 romp over fellow American Fabian Johnson and Hoffenheim.

Onyewu's goal came in the middle of a wild 10 minute span in the second half of Wednesday's FA Cup Fourth Round game. The big defender rose to meet a corner kick with his head and put Wednesday up 2-0 on Rochdale away from home in the 56th minute, which was just a few minutes after the opening goal was scored. Gooch's tally would be needed -- Rochdale nabbed a goal of their own three minutes after Onyewu's header, but the Owls were able to hang on to advance to the last 16 of the FA Cup.

The goal was Onyewu's first appearance on a scoresheet in over a year, with his last goal coming on December 18th, 2012 for Malaga.

Chandler's goal came earlier in the day, with this 24th minute effort from way outside the penalty box somehow finding its way through a mass of bodies and into the back of the net.

That goal, of course, came at the expense of U.S. left back/left winger Johnson, who was substituted at halftime. So maybe it wasn't a great day for all American defenders.
