Germany tops the FIFA rankings after its dominating run through the World Cup, FIFA announced.

Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final on Sunday, its first World Cup title in 24 years.

Spain, which previously topped the rankings, dropped to eighth after being eliminated in the group stage. Argentina, the Netherlands, Colombia, and Belgium round out the top five.

Several nations dropped significantly in the new rankings. Portugal fell seven places to 11th, Italy dropped five spots to 14th and England dropped to 20th after being 10th in the previous rankings.

Uruguay, World Cup host country Brazil, Spain, Switzerland and France complete the top 10. The United States fell two spots to 15 after being eliminated by Belgium in the World Cup's round of 16. 

Costa Rica, after its remarkable run to the quarterfinals, is on the USA's heels after climbing 12 spots to reach an all-time high 16th, while Mexico is close behind at 18th.
