Didier Drogba is considering a return to Chelsea, Ben Smith of BBC Sport reports.

The 36-year-old, who left Galatasaray to become a free agent, left Chelsea in 2012 after scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Smith reports that "Drogba's representatives say a decision has not yet been made," but that Chelsea is an option, and striker is likely to decide on whether he will return sometime this week.

Drogba started one game and was subbed in twice as part of the Ivory Coast squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Ivory Coast was eliminated during the group stage, after they won just one game.

Drogba joined Chelsea from Marseille in July 2004, and won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and a Champions League with Chelsea.

Drogba still has close links to London and, during an interview with BBC Sport in February, said: "When you're happy at a club, you want to stay forever.

"You don't stay eight years in a place you don't like, especially in football."
