Report: Philadelphia Union's Austin Berry loaned to S. Korea's FC Anyang

2012 MLS Rookie of the Year Austin Berry is set for an unlikely move to the other side of the world, according to a report from SBISoccer.com.

The defender will reportedly join South Korean side FC Anyang on loan from the Philadelphia Union, joining up with his new team on Wednesday.

“People have been asking me if I’m nervous at all, but since it’s been brought up, I’ve been really excited about it,” he told SBI. “I’m really eager to get over there and I want to embrace it as much as I can, learn the culture, learn the language and kind of build a future for myself.”

Drafted out of Louisville with No. 9 overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, Berry thrived in his first two years in the Windy City. The defender started 62 games over two years with the Fire, developing a reputation as one of the league's most dependable young center backs.

A trade to the Philadelphia Union a year ago was supposed to provide a new platform for Berry, but the defender was limited to just six league appearances in 2014 thanks to injuries and disappointing play. 

FC Anyang currently plays in the K-League Challenge, the second tier of soccer in the country. The team finished fifth in the league last season, missing out of the promotion playoffs due to goal difference.
