Best known for her propensity to shoot from distance, Lloyd is the U.S.’s all-time leading scorer from the midfield. She scored both goals in the 2-1 2012 Olympic final victory over Japan, as well as the game-winner in the 2008 final against Brazil in extra time. As such, she became the first player, male or female, to score game-winning goals in two separate gold-medal games.

Lloyd also put away her effort in the 2011 World Cup semifinal shootout before missing a subsequent attempt from the penalty spot against Japan in the final. Coming off a year in 2014 in which she led the U.S. in goals (15, tying her career high) and assists (eight), Lloyd will likely be the player coach Jill Ellis relies on to play the highest of two central midfielders in Canada, and if Christie Rampone and Abby Wambach don't start or are not on the field, Lloyd is next in line to inherit the captain's armband.
