MLS roundup: Toronto FC beats D.C. United; Sporting KC tops Sounders
WASHINGTON (AP) — Sebastian Giovinco scored in the 83rd minute, his second of the game, and Toronto FC beat D.C. United 2–1 on Saturday night to end Washington's 16-game home unbeaten streak.
Giovinco has a goal or an assist in 10 of 12 games this season, totaling seven goals and six assists.
He evened it at 1 in the 34th minute, beating two defenders with a skilled cutback and powering a shot over the head of goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra. His go-ahead goal was a knuckleball from distance.
Toronto (6-5-1) won its third straight game, while D.C. United (8-4-4), the Eastern Conference leader, fell one game short of tying a club record for consecutive unbeaten home games.

United's Steve Birnbaum got his first MLS goal in the sixth minute with an easy redirection of Fabian Espindola's corner kick. Espindola had a shot hit the post in the fifth. Kofi Opare had a goal disallowed in the 60th after Birnbaum was whistled offside on Espindola's free kick.
Sporting KC 1, Sounders 0
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Benny Feilhaber scored on a penalty kick in the 84th minute and Kansas City beat Seattle 1–0 on Saturday night for Sporting's first regular-season victory over the Sounders since 2009.

Kansas City (6-2-6) snapped its 435-minute scoreless streak against Seattle (8-4-2), dating to June 2012, and beat the Sounders for the first time at home in five attempts.
The penalty kick was awarded after goalkeeper Stefan Frei was whistled for a questionable foul in a collision with Dominic Dwyer.
"I don't know if it was a penalty or not," Feilhaber said. "But obviously, when we get the opportunity we want to try and make it. So I just waited to see which way Frei would go and tried to slip it in the opposite way."
Tim Melia recorded his fourth shutout in six starts and became the first Kansas City goalkeeper to go unbeaten in his first six games. Dwyer entered as a second-half substitute in the 58th minute. He did not play in Sporting's scoreless draw in Seattle on May 23.
Whitecaps 1, Galaxy 0
CARSON, Calif. — Kekuta Manneh scored a first-half goal and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat Los Angeles 1–0 on Saturday to snap the Galaxy's 23-game home unbeaten streak.
It was Los Angeles' first loss at home since its season opener in 2014.
In the 32nd minute, Manneh stole the ball in the Galaxy's attacking half, found Octavio Rivero for a give-and-go and slid a shot between two defenders for his second goal of the season.
Vancouver (8-6-2) had lost all six regular-season games with Los Angeles (5-5-6) in Carson.
Vancouver had several fast-break chances in the second half. Manneh's heavy touch on a breakaway in the 54th minute pulled Brian Rowe out of his box and the deflected shot went wide of the goal.
The Whitecaps' counter-attack in the 72nd minute resulted in Pedro Morales' shot off the post and a 2-on-1 opportunity fell flat in the 83rd after Rivero's errant pass.
Robbie Keane made his first start since April 4, but Los Angeles was without Bradford Jamieson, Gyasi Zardes and Jaime Penedo, all on international duty.

NYCFC 2, Union 1
CHESTER, Pa. — Patrick Mullins scored in the 87th minute to lift New York City FC past the Philadelphia Union 2–1 on Saturday night in the teams' third and final meeting this season.
Mullins followed Jeb Brovsky's throw-in as it rolled into the 18-yard box, shielding defenders to line up his shot. His left-footed strike deflected off the back of defender Richie Marquez's leg and skirted just inside the right post.
C.J. Sapong opened the scoring in the 46th minute for the Union (4-9-3), convertingSebastien Le Toux's corner kick with a right-footed shot from the center of the box. It was Sapong's third goal in four games.
Thomas McNamara tied it for NYCFC (2-7-5) in the 53rd minute with a long-distance rocket into the upper right corner of the goal for his first goal of the season and second of his career.

Timbers 2, Revolution 0
PORTLAND, Ore. — Fanendo Adi scored two late goals and the Portland Timbers beat the New England Revolution 2–0 on Saturday night for their first three-game winning streak since joining MLS in 2011.
Adi scored a header off of Jorge Villafana's free kick in the 86th minute, then stretched to knock Alvas Powell's cross past goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth 3 minutes later to seal the victory.
Portland (6-5-4) moved into fourth place in the Western Conference. New England (5-4-6) is winless streak in six games. The Revolution are second in the Eastern Conference.

New England frustrated Portland for much of the night, with Bobby Shuttleworth making some outstanding saves. The best came in the 74th minute, when Adi's header found Maximilliano Urruti for a driving header, but Shuttleworth dove to punch the ball clear. Shuttleworth finished with three saves.
Portland's Adam Kwarasey had a much quieter night for his sixth shutout. New England's best opportunity came in the first half, courtesy of Kelyn Rowe. A shot by the midfielder crossed up the Timbers goalkeeper, who tried to grab the shot, but saw the ball bounce off his hands and spin out for a corner kick.
The Timbers lost Dairon Asprilla to an apparent leg injury in the 65th minute, with the midfielder taken off on a stretcher.
Impact 2, Crew 1
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Maxim Tissot and Andres Romero scored and Montreal beat the Columbus Crew 2–1 on Saturday night for the Impact's first road win in 26 games.

It was Montreal's first win away from home since beating New England on Sept. 8, 2013.
Tissot tapped in a rebound 10 minutes into the second half to start the scoring. Goalkeeper Steve Clark saved Jack McInerney's hustle play and Tissot was there for the easy finish. Montreal made it 2-0 in the 79th minute when Romero chipped home a goal on a counter attack off a feed from Ignacio Piatti.
Montreal (4-4-2) won for the first time in Columbus in six attempts. Columbus (4-6-4) is winless in five games and has given up multiple goals in seven straight matches.
Columbus' Federico Higuain cleaned up a failed clearance in the first minute of second-half stoppage time to make it 2-1.
Orlando City 3, Fire 2
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — Cyle Larin tied it for Orlando City in the 82nd minute and the Chicago Fire's Adailton netted his second own goal of the game 4 minutes later to complete Orlando City's 3–2 comeback victory Saturday night.
Larin, who entered as a substitute in the 66th minute, scored the late equalizer on a hooking blast from outside the box — the rookie's fifth goal in nine games.
Carlos Rivas then sent in the cross in the 86th minute and that forced Adailton's defensive blunder and gave Orlando City (4-5-5) the decisive goal.
David Accam gave Chicago (4-7-2) a 2-1 lead with a right-footed strike in the 57th minute, and Kennedy Igboananike put the Fire in front early with the opening goal in the ninth minute.
Adailton's first own goal tied it for Orlando City 1-1 in the 40th minute. It was a helpless deflection after Fire goalkeeper John Busch's punched the ball off Adailton while trying to save Sean St. Ledger's header.
