SAN JOSE, California (AP)—San Jose's Shea Salinas headed the game's sole goal in the first half as the Earthquakes beat 10-man Los Angeles 1–0 on Friday, costing the Galaxy a chance to extend their lead in Major League Soccer's Western Conference.

Quincy Amarikwa headed a cross that was blocked by goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, but Salinas pounced on the rebound for an easy finish to give San Jose a fourth straight win.

Leonardo was shown a red card in the 47th minute after taking down Amarikwa on a goal-scoring opportunity.

Vancouver can overtake the Galaxy and go top of the Western Conference if it wins at Houston on Saturday.
