Bobby Wood equalizes for U.S. in extra time, ties Mexico 2–2

Substitute Bobby Wood came up with a game-tying goal for the United States in extra time against Mexico in the CONCACAF Cup.

Substitute Bobby Wood came up with a game-tying goal for the United States in extra time against Mexico in the CONCACAF Cup. However, it wouldn't be enough, as Paul Aguilar scored the winner for Mexico with a 118th-minute volley. 

Wood knotted the game at 2–2, finishing at the top of the box on a through ball from DeAndre Yedlin. Wood struck a one-touch shot at a difficult angle past Mexico keeper Moises Muñoz to keep U.S. hopes alive.

Oribe Peralta had given Mexico a 2–1 overtime lead minutes earlier with a finish off a diagonal-back into the box.

Earlier in the game, Chicharito gave Mexico a 1–0 lead off a neat passing combination from Peralta in the ninth minute. Geoff Cameron equalized on a header shortly afterward, in the 15th minute.

Mexico earned a berth in the 2017 Confederations Cup with the win.
