USMNT's Julian Green starts in Champions League for Bayern Munich

Julian Green earned the start in the Champions League for Bayern Munich in the German power's group finale vs. Dinamo Zagreb.

Julian Green hasn't received much playing time with Bayern Munich's first team, but he received a golden opportunity on Wednesday.

With Bayern having wrapped up its Champions League group and nursing a number of injuries, manager Pep Guardiola selected Green, the 20-year-old U.S. men's national team winger, for his starting lineup against Dinamo Zagreb in the group finale.

Green, who has eight goals in 19 games this season with Bayern Munich's reserve team in Germany's fourth division, earned the alongside the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Franck Ribery, Xabi Alonso and Philipp Lahm in Croatia.

It marks Green's first first-team start with Bayern and second appearance, the other also coming in the Champions League on Nov. 27, 2013, against CSKA Moscow.

Green spent last season on loan with Hamburg, playing sparingly. The German-American is famous for choosing to represent the USA over Germany prior to the 2014 World Cup and then making Jurgen Klinsmann's squad, scoring in the round-of-16 loss to Belgium in his World Cup debut.
