Swiss authorities seize documents from FIFA headquarters after search

Swiss authorities searched the FIFA headquarters in Zurich on Thursday and have seized documents and data relating to the criminal investigation of the organization, the BBC reports.

The search was related to the investigations into former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and former secretary general Jerome Valcke, who are both suspected of criminal mismanagement of FIFA funds and have been banned from world soccer’s governing body.

The Associated Press reported on Friday that Blatter, Valcke and former finance director Markus Kattner had given themselves pay raises totaling $80 million over a five-year period, according to FIFA lawyers. FIFA provided details on the transactions, which appear to be illegal, following the conclusion of Thursday’s headquarters raid.

Valcke was handed a 12-year ban in February, while Blatter appealed his eight-year ban down to six years.
