U.S. Women’s National Team Announces World Cup Roster

The United States Women’s National Soccer team revealed its roster ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which is set to begin next month in New Zealand and Australia.

Veteran defender Kelley O’Hara was one of three players revealed as part of the World Cup roster early on Wednesday, joining first-time women’s national team members Lynn Williams and Kristie Mewis.

O’Hara joins forwards Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe as the only four-time USWNT members on this year’s roster. In addition, O’Hara, Morgan and Rapinoe are the 10th, 11th and 12th USWNT players to be selected for four or more World Cup rosters.

Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and midfielder Julie Ertz were named to their third World Cup roster with the USWNT, while defenders Crystal Dunn and Emily Sonnett as well as midfielders Lindsey Horan and Rose Lavelle all made their second World Cup roster.

The remaining 14 members of the team are first-time participants in the World Cup for Team USA.

“The task of selecting a World Cup team is never easy, but I’m proud of the players for their work ethic and focus during the process and of our coaching staff for doing the work to put together the best team possible,” coach Vlatko Andonovski said in the release. “It’s the players that make the biggest impact on our environment, they push each other to be better and I know as a group they are extremely motivated to make our country proud at the World Cup. Every player has a different journey to get to this point so our roster has some amazing stories and we have a really good mix of veterans and younger players.”

The United States has won the last two FIFA Women’s World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019, and looks to capture its third straight crown this summer.

Here’s the link to the full roster, which was revealed at 11:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
