Chelsea Put Firm End to Transfer Speculation With Star Player’s New Contract

Chelsea have secured the future of striker João Pedro, tying the Brazilian down to a bumper new contract.
Pedro wildly exceeded expectations during his debut season at Stamford Bridge, racking up 23 goals and nine assists across all competitions and firmly establishing himself as the Blues’ undisputed starter in his position.
Barcelona were known to hold an interest in Pedro and had been tipped to make a move in the increasingly likely event that Atlético Madrid refuse to do business over Julián Alvarez, but Chelsea have made sure that will not happen by securing Pedro’s future until 2034.
“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea,” Pedro reflected. “I always dreamed of playing for a big club, and it means a lot to me to give my long-term commitment to this club. Chelsea has a long tradition of winning and it has big ambitions for the future.
“I have a very good relationship with everyone here at the club and I have felt at home here in London from the moment that I joined.
“Everyone is very excited for this season. We know we can achieve a lot of things, we have a great team, we have a coach who wants to win and has won already. I am fully committed, everyone is ready and hopefully we can achieve our targets.”
Pedro Primed to Reach Next Level Under Xabi Alonso

It was in 2025–26 that Pedro announced himself as one of the Premier League’s top strikers. He had impressed during two years with Brighton & Hove Albion, but his first season with Chelsea was the first time Pedro reached over 10 goals in a Premier League campaign.
That form saw Pedro fight off competition from Liam Delap and claim Chelsea’s starting role, with his victory in that personal battle so emphatic that the Brazilian has since been awarded Delap’s No. 9 jersey.
At 24 years old, Pedro is still entering his prime and expectations for him are higher than ever, particularly after an electric preseason campaign saw him bag seven goals in just five appearances.
Maintaining those levels in the Premier League will be near-impossible, but Chelsea fans have hope that Pedro can make yet another jump and offer genuine competition in the Golden Boot race—even if Erling Haaland remains the runaway favorite.
“We talk a lot with João because he’s not just a great player,” manager Xabi Alonso said of the striker. “He has a great personality and I think that his development as a great player and as a leader is very noticeable every day in each game.
“So he has this focus and this desire to have a great season, scoring goals but helping the team. I’m very happy, I’m very impressed with his personality as well and now we need to help him reach his goals.”
