After an impressive preseason, the second era of José Mourinho at Real Madrid begins on Saturday with a trip to Espanyol.

Los Blancos won four and drew once this summer and are feeling good for the first time in a while after a tumultuous end to last season brought on-field slumps and physical fights behind the scenes. Mourinho was brought in to put a stop to it all, and the early signs are promising.

All eyes will be on Madrid’s blockbuster attack, with Mourinho the latest to take on the challenge of figuring out a way to get Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior purring at the same time. Yan Diomande’s summer arrival only adds to the intrigue.

Espanyol, meanwhile, ended last season lost in mid-table obscurity but arrive at Saturday’s game with spirits high after a 3–0 win over Levante on La Liga’s opening weekend.
