Ruben Amorim’s sudden departure from Manchester United was confirmed on Monday morning, amid rumours of a falling out with director of football Jason Wilcox.

That notion was subsequently played down in the immediate aftermath of Amorim’s firing, but there’s no doubting that a meeting before the weekend’s game with Leeds United sealed the fate of the 40-year-old Portuguese—who had previously been given a three-year assurance by INEOS chief and United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Man Utd changing their manager has inevitably dominated the news cycle and will continue to do in the upcoming days and weeks, with many turning their attention to who will be tasked with taking the club forward—six permanent managers have now been and gone since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in the summer of 2013.
